The Author

Annabelle Brayley

Having lived in the outback for the last thirty years, Annabelle Brayley is a self appointed storyteller with a significant interest in the Australian bush and the people who live there. Despite the lack of a journalistic background, for the last three years she has featured regularly as a contributor in OUTBACK Magazine and occasionally in Queensland Country Life.

While researching the Cods story “For the Love of Rugby” which appeared in Issue 58 of OUTBACK in early 2008, Annabelle was invited to write the history of the club as they had never kept any records or documentation. While that in itself presented a challenge, she built the story from the memories of many of the Cods and Codgers and a few other people besides who had a hand in their evolution. Determined as she was not to write a dry chronological history, Annabelle introduced Meg Lacey into Caging Octopuses for the express purpose of narrating the story. Meg is a composite character loosely based on many of the characters that belong to the club as is her husband Boots. Set throughout the 2008 season, Meg is researching and recording the stories for their impending son Baby Boots, due to arrive late in the Rugby season.

Annabelle now lives at Morven, in south west Queensland and Caging Octopuses- The First Decade of Cods Rugby is her first book.
